Bill Bishop and Bill Gulliford were picked without dissent Tuesday to be the Jacksonville City Council's next president and vice president.
"I will do my best not to let you down," Bishop told the group after a roll call of support. "We've got a lot of work to do and we're going to be a good job at it."
Bishop and Gulliford will formally take their new positions July 1. Until then, their new titles will carry the prefix "designate."

The leadership vote happened minutes before the council started a meeting where well over 100 people turned up for a public hearing on legislation to expand the city's non-discrimination ordinance to include sexual orientation.
Leadership candidates began declaring themselves last year, with no rival to Bishop emerging. There were three prospective vice presidents — Gulliford, Ray Holt and Clay Yarborough.
