TU: Gov. Rick Scott picks members for 'Stand Your Ground' task force

This is definitely something we all need to watch.  This is not a bad law; it allows us to take action to protect ourselves if we feel someone is trying to inflict serious bodily harm.  No one should be forced to do nothing or be charged with a crime for protecting themselves from someone trying to kill them or inflict serious bodily harm.  That's my opinion, what's yours?

A task force headed by Lt. Gov. Jennifer Carroll, established  to review among other things Florida's controversial Stand Your Ground law,  includes 17 members. The task force hopes to conclude its work by next year's  legislative session.

Gov. Rick Scott announced the creation of the task force in March, but few  details were released until a Thursday news conference. He said the task force  is "totally separate from" the highly publicized investigation surrounding Trayvon Martin,  an unarmed 17-year-old shot and killed in Central Florida.

No forensic testing, using the same voice analysis used by the NSA determined it wasn't Zimmerman yelling help. I give no weight to his mother identifying his voice. I believe she knows it is her son but htat is not evidence.

Thanks John.  Read part of the article, and I will finish reading the whole thing in the AM as it looks like a really good explanation/opinion piece.  On my way out (date night and off to the submarine ball tonight......not nearly as glam as it sounds but dressy anyway).  Hope you all have a great evening!

Amanda, if "stand your ground" applies then it certainly is a defense and I didn't know someone hadn't been arrested, because they said they were only standing their ground. I don't think that is how it works. I think people are arrested if they have enough evidence of a crime (as we can't arrest anyone if there is no evidence a crime has been committed), and when they go to a hearing or court, they get to use a defense of "stand you ground". Then, it is a matter of the prosecution proving a case against them for the crime they charge them with. If they can't prove a case or there is not sufficient evidence, they are usually found not guilty by the jury unless of course you would prefer putting innocent people in jail nix evidence or a trial?  I personally prefer not to send anyone to jail who isn't guilty, but some folks don't feel that way.

I agree, but what is going on at all levels is important and this law should not be in question period over any single case. I actually used "Merry Christmas" to everyone last year even more than I usually do :). And yes, gas, food prices, the loss of rights, and a shopping list full of other things are certainly more important than this, but this is part of that in a way because it is a move towards the politically correct instead of common sense and what is right.

Like I said, as far as I am concerned, this is an issue to be sorted out and solved by law enforcement in Sanford. Don't appoint a task force to examine a law that is not, in my opinion, controversial.  I don't want to see Congressmen in hoodies on the floor of the house talking about it.  I don't want to hear about it ad nauseum on every news channel (Sean Hannity, are you reading this?).  We weren't there.  We don't know what happened.

Frankly, what I am more concerned about is the price of gas, the fact that the Obama administration hasn't passed a budget in three years, the skyrocketing unemployment numbers, the erosion of our Constitutional rights, the fact that Democrats think it is unreasonable to require ID's to vote, not being allowed to say "Merry Christmas" at Christmas for fear that it may offend someone, cutting funding for our military, media bias propoganda, a president who goes around the world and apologizes for our country, don't even get me started on how the schools are brainwashing our kids and not teaching them things like American history, Legislators passing bills they have not even read, a government who wants to mandate what light bulbs we buy and what food we eat, and so help me if I hear Obama say "fair share" one more time...

His mother, who is hardly a really credible witness (given the circumstances) is the only person who thinks it is her son, and she is now very upset because her sons "murderer" is out on bail.  And yet, there are pictures now that were taken roughly 3 minutes after the Martin shooting that show Zimmerman's head all bloody before the paramedics cleaned him up and checked his head and said he needed stitches (which he did not try to go get until the next day when it was too late).  This conversation has already occurred Amanda.  You tried and convicted Zimmerman before you even knew anything about what happened as did all the blood thirsty folks that went down there to get their moment of fame and TV coverage.  I still hold Zimmerman is innocent until proven guilty as that is how we do things in this country or used to and given the new pictures that have surfaced, I seriously wonder if Martin was the person screaming............and one of the witnesses said it was Zimmerman, so ........................  Everyone all knows what you think.  You have not wavered, so reaping it once again, is probably not going get any more positive reinforcement than it did last time.

...and by the way, do we need our legislation to written for us by special interests groups, word for word. We need to start electing legislators who have their own brains and convictions and don't just do as they are told by their big money donors. The fact that law enforcement agencies can be sued for arresting anyone who claims or might claim stand your ground as a defense is crazy.

It wasn't Zimmerman yelling "Help" that is known. That means it was Trayvon yelling for help, defending himself from a gun wielding attacker. Cory could have charged manslaughter, she chose second degree murder.

KC, we do not know that Zimmerman was pursuing Martin.  We have been told that is true, but it may not be.  He talked to the police, they told him not to pursue, and did he continue?  All we know is that he got out of his vehicle because he did not see Martin, and then, went back to his vehicle and as he was getting ready to get into his truck Martin attacked him.  If Zimmerman was walking back to his vehicle or trying to get into the vehicle to leave, I don't see how anyone can claim he was pursuing Martin at that time nor can we claim Zimmerman created the situation as we have no proof that is true either.  What we do now know is that Zimmerman told the truth about having his head beat into the ground and his nose broken by the attack Martin made on him, so we could just as easily say that Martin would still be alive if he had gone on his merry way home instead of confronting someone who was leaving the area.

When you're head is pounded into the ground after a punch in the nose and a 6'3" man is over the top of your 5'3" frame, and you are in fear of your life, there is no choice. You have to stand your ground because you can't get away anyway. From the evidence so far, Tray confronted Zimm as he was heading back to his vehicle. At that pint he had no idea where Tray was until he was assaulted. Zimm did not assault Tray. Who was the actual pursuer?

RYAN NICHOLS - Hardened Criminal?? Seriously??

If you're not already aware. This is what's going on in DC while dangerous criminals are allowed back out on the streets.  It's horrifying that this is happening to our citizens and veterans for protesting the hijacking of our election process. This is still happening! They are STILL being tortured and treated like full on terrorists.

You may not be aware of the typical things they're forced to go through...…
