From what I understand of the situation, Stand Your Ground should not be at issue here.  Stand Your Ground applies only if your life is threatened in a situation that you DID NOT create.  If you confront someone or pick a fight and they react or respond aggressively, you created the situation and you cannot claim Stand Your Ground.  You can defend yourself certainly, but it is not Stand Your Ground.  Other laws apply.  If you are minding your own business and you are confronted and your life is threatened, then you can claim Stand Your Ground.

I don't know what happened in Sanford because I was not there and I do not know any of the people involved.  As far as I am concerned, this is an issue to be sorted out and solved by law enforcement in Sanford.  This is about two bad actors and a tragic result for both.  It should not be a political issue, which it clearly is.  It is being used as a distraction for the upcoming election because the incumbent party has no positive record to run on.  Enough already.

I think the real things are coming out now.  And what do these racists want them to do?  Put an innocent man in jail?  That is what I think they are setting this up for, because once all the info comes out, Zimmerman shot this young man, but as he said he had no way of knowing the guys age or anything else about him except he was doing him major bodily harm and he was afraid of being killed himself.

J LO, read this article.  Zimmerman isn't guilty of 2nd degree murder.  He was defending himself from this monster young man.  This article has pictures of Zimmerman 3 minutes after the shooting and he is a bloody mess from having his head pounded into the pavement.  They are way over reacting.    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/04/20/trayvon-martin-case-new-p_...

Patrica, I'd rather be alive and well than PC.

Zimmerman was a sacrificial lamb as far as the state of Florida was concerned and the evidence is mounting up! The actions of the state and feds was unprecedented the way they bottled up the case from the beginning and controlled the situation. Its all political.

J. Lo, new pictures have been released that proof that Zimmerman truly was beaten and had his beat into the sidewalk.  They have shots of his head about 8 minutes after Martin was shot before the resue folks cleaned him up.  He is telling the truth.  He was defending himself.  This makes me so mad.  Right now, if your life is threatened, first you better hope you have something to defend yourself, and then, you better check the ethnic background of the person attacking you cause if they are black, you have to let them kill you I would guess!

I spoke to a representative in the Governors office today. She denied that the task force was related to The Zimmerman case. Then I pressed her into admitting that it WAS in response to Zimmerman after I heard other folks and background noise as I keep saying  "WHY NOW!"

Something really smells in Tallahassee.

She said it was about "citizen safety and protection". What a crock!   Call Gov. Scott and tell him we have the BEST gun laws in the country and don't mess with them!
