Jacksonville Mayor Alvin Brown's nominee to run the city's building inspections division drew criticism Monday from a City Council member who said James Schock was evasive about construction problems at the city's arena.
"I feel like he was misleading," Councilman Johnny Gaffney said after inspections nominee Schock spoke to the council Rules Committee. "He misled that committee."
Gaffney said he wasn't sure whether that would affect his vote when the full council considers Schock's confirmation next week.
A contractor who helped build the Veterans Memorial Arena in 2002-03 is expected to spend three or four months repairing masonry problems that a recent review said could lead to pieces of the walls falling near people walking past.
