TU: Jacksonville Journal: Free tutoring for some Duval students

I don't like the idea that you have to be on the free lor reduced cost unch program to qualify.   Many people who can't afford to pay a tutor don't necessarily accept handouts.  They make do and do the best they can, and to eliminate those who are proud enough to provide for themselves, but may not be able to pay a tutor, sends the wrong message as far as I am concerned (it encourages and rewards the welfare state).

Free tutoring is being offered to students who meet certain qualifications of Duval County Public Schools.

As a result of the federal No Child Left Behind Act, students can be eligible to receive help in math, reading, language arts and science. To participate, students must be enrolled in an eligible Title I school and qualify for free or reduced-price lunch.

Tutoring applications will be mailed to eligible students this week, and must be returned to the Title I Office by Friday, Sept. 2.

For more information about the free tutoring program, call the Title I Office at (904) 390-2123.

RYAN NICHOLS - Hardened Criminal?? Seriously??

If you're not already aware.
