TU: School officials want Mayor Alvin Brown to check in before visits

Although I agree with those who commented on the article that have said they are happy that Mayor Brown is enthusiastic about the schools and wants to be part of a solution to make them better, I also understand he should not overstep either by just showing up unannounced or with such short notice the visit disrupts the school day for the students. The schools are the authority of the school board, and there is apparently a process which should be followed to make his visits or those of others in his administration as undisruptive as possible for the students and the school's administration.  Better to be a "good listener" in this situation and hear the concerns of the principles and school board than to create an adversarial atmosphere that would benefit no one most especially the students Mayor Brown wishes to benefit (than a bull in a china shop or someone who tries to impose their will on those who do have authority).  Certainly, if anyone disagrees, I would love to hear your take on this.

District officials say they are happy he's coming, but need to be told.

Duval County school officials are happy to have a mayor that is so enthusiastic about public schools, but they want Mayor Alvin Brown to check in before he visits the county's public schools.

Brown visited Fletcher and Mandarin high schools with staff members Tuesday but school officials were not prepared to accommodate him. When the issue of Brown's visits came up during the School Board's workshop meeting Tuesday, school officials expressed their preference he go through them to coordinate his visits.

When district officials discussed possible visit dates for Brown, they understood he wouldn't visit schools on Tuesday because Superintendent Ed Pratt-Dannals wouldn't be able to attend the schools with Brown. Pratt-Dannals had to attend the board meeting.

But Brown made the Tuesday visits anyway.

"Neither the mayor, nor me, nor you should go tromping around our schools," School Board Chairman W.C. Gentry said.

At the same time, Gentry said, he loved the mayor's interest in public education.

"We've never had a mayor that was this enthusiastic about public education, and we have to learn how to have a mayor that cares this much about our schools," Gentry said.

School officials want Brown and his staff to go through them to coordinate his visits to the schools.

RYAN NICHOLS - Hardened Criminal?? Seriously??

If you're not already aware. This is what's going on in DC while dangerous criminals are allowed back out on the streets.  It's horrifying that this is happening to our citizens and veterans for protesting the hijacking of our election process. This is still happening! They are STILL being tortured and treated like full on terrorists.
