WND: Witness counters Trayvon Martin media narrative; Says 17-year-old was beating Zimmerman before shooting

Since the NAACP (Al Sharpton and others) is treating this like a cold blooded murder, and we are treated to pictures of this young man when he was 9 or 10 rather than as he looks now which is quite different and more ominous to someone, it tends to slant how people feel about this case, and the media has made a circus of it when the facts are not even yet known.  The NAACP also voiced concerns about Angela Corey being the lead investigator on the case.  http://jacksonville.com/news/crime/2012-03-23/story/naacp-has-some-...  And then, of course, Obama has weighed in, and I, for one, am still scratching my head trying to figure out what possible bearing this young man possibly looking like the son he does not have could possibly have on this case..............or even why he felt the need to weigh in on this case at all from the federal level.  Now, however, a witness has come forward who has indicated, Mr. Zimmerman had a right to be fearful for his life which throws a totally different light on things, and we will have to carefully watch how this investigation moves forward since this case is now in the national spotlight.

Maybe George Zimmerman did act in self-defense when he shot and killed Trayvon Martin, whose death Feb. 26 in Sanford, Florida, has been the focus of a media and political circus that even included Barack Obama weighing in this week.

An eyewitness to the incident told police Martin was beating Zimmerman before he shot him.

Zimmerman had called 911 to report the suspicious activities of a youth in his neighborhood, telling the dispatcher that he was following Martin.

On the recording of another 911 call, repeated cries of “help” can be heard before the gunshot.

The witness, identified only as John, says those cries were made by Zimmerman who was on the ground being beaten by Martin.

“The guy on the bottom who had a red sweater on was yelling to me: ‘help, help … and I told him to stop and I was calling 911,” he said.

Martin was wearing a gray hoodie, while Zimmerman was wearing red.

“When I got upstairs and looked down, the guy who was on top beating up the other guy, was the one laying in the grass, and I believe he was dead at that point,” John said.

Zimmerman claimed the shooting was self-defense. Zimmerman said he was going back to his SUV when he was attacked by the teen. Sanford police say Zimmerman was bloody in his face and head, and the back of his shirt was wet and had grass stains, indicating a struggle took place before the shooting.

Meanwhile, the attack has been portrayed by most media outlets as a racist, vigilante-style assault by Zimmerman – a half-Hispanic, half-white, self-style neighborhood crime-watch captain – on an innocent role-model black teen-ager carrying only a cell phone and some Skittles.

Obama weighed in on the shooting Friday, saying the incident requires all Americans to “do some soul searching.”

Agree John.  This whole incident has been turned into a circus of personal opinion!

And it is not wrong for Zimmerman to have had a weapon either Amanda.  If he used it wrongly, he will pay the price, but if he truly was attacked and feared for his life, he had a right to use deadly force to stop from being killed himself.

Amanda, 40 black teens lost the lives in Chicago last year most from shooting between black teens killing black teens.  Not one of the folks showed up or called the parents of any of them.  They were really wrong in choosing a case like this and trying to convict someone without justice.  I did not try Martin, but I also will not try Zimmerman.  He also deserves justice, and if he did nothing other than defend himself, he has been left in a situation that is unimaginable.  People have come forward and said they saw Martin attack him.  Others in the area have said they are afraid to speak out or say anything because of the circus the media and some groups have created.  I think we might have gotten to the truth of the matter far faster if people had not been so fast to demand an arrest and conviction of Zimmerman before they even knew what happened............and yes, I already know they know that Martin was killed but under what circumstances.  We don't know.  I trust the system.  I have met enough of the fine men and women in our city who work as the city's police force to trust the police in Orlando to do a good job.  I truly believe we can trust the people who are investigating this to be honest and make a good judgement and I think we should allow that to happen without second guessing the outcome.

Any Tea Party gathering rightly seems to focus on liberty. But of all the constituent parts of small "l" liberty, justice is among the most important. If in looking at this event you fail to smell even a hint of the awful stench of injustice, then I believe you are doing so willfully. And the merest hint deserves intense scrutiny. Not only because it is the right thing to do, especially when viewed from the eyes of those who have witnesses unequal treatment from these same officers.
Liberty depends on justice.

What will, in your opinion, hold him responsible for the use of his weapon? - John

Using it is all that is required to be held accountable.

Patricia your argument convicts Martin even though he iis dead. And John are you a pundit? If not your opinion does not matter. Legally and people who have concealed permits know this, you bear all the responsibility when you use your weapon. Feeling bad and sorry ain't enough. Besides why is he apologizing for shooting if he was attacked?

Amanda, I am not going to try and convict someone before they finish the investigation.  You may if you wish and most liberal news sources certainly have done a fine job finding him guilty nix an investigation or trial as well as the NAACP, New Black Panthers and most of the liberals in congress (now there's a reliable source of judgement......), so jump right in there like you have from day one and decided you can determine guilt minus an investigation or a trial..............I still prefer to wait and see what the investigation brings and what is determined by the experts involved in the case.  If Zimmerman committed a crime, they will arrest him for the crime he committed.

The lead investigator found Zimmerman's story implausible and wanted to make the arrest. Wolfinger or his office told him no.

This comes from NewsMax, so it must be true.

Do you believe the story of the man who faces a lifetime in jail? Now that is gullible.

Have you not read a single thing on this case except those things you wish to believe Amanda.  Martin attacked Zimmerman as he was getting into his truck and beat the crap out of him.  Zimmerman feared for his life..........................  You are still spewing the same stuff over and over and over without even having read some of what has come to light.  Don't talk about responsibilities to me.  Zimmerman was not the aggressor as he was leaving and Martin attacked him.

Yes John and Patricia, with rights come responsibilities. With actions come consequences. If you are armed with a firearm and you persue someone with the intent to stop, harrass, detain, impede or otherwise exert your will upon them, you become responsible for everything that happens afterward. That is why cops surrender their weapons immediately upon an instance when they shoot someone. Because they are accountable for it being a justifiable act and the burden is placed upon them.

Zimmerman was the aggressor in this and then it turned bad. He bears the burden. His own 911 call indicates that he is persuing Martin.

That Wolfinger's office decided there wasn't enough evidence to get a conviction only hours into an investigation is the hardest part to swallow. Manslaughter is a no brainer. Acquit or dismiss later but have in place the an arrest warrant so that the investigators can go forth unimpeded. That is just basic law enforcement. It has been reported that the lead investigator for SPD found Zimmerman's story implausible. He wanted to press charges but was overruled by the State Attorney. Wolfinger may have some explainin' to do.
