WND: Witness counters Trayvon Martin media narrative; Says 17-year-old was beating Zimmerman before shooting

Since the NAACP (Al Sharpton and others) is treating this like a cold blooded murder, and we are treated to pictures of this young man when he was 9 or 10 rather than as he looks now which is quite different and more ominous to someone, it tends to slant how people feel about this case, and the media has made a circus of it when the facts are not even yet known.  The NAACP also voiced concerns about Angela Corey being the lead investigator on the case.  http://jacksonville.com/news/crime/2012-03-23/story/naacp-has-some-...  And then, of course, Obama has weighed in, and I, for one, am still scratching my head trying to figure out what possible bearing this young man possibly looking like the son he does not have could possibly have on this case..............or even why he felt the need to weigh in on this case at all from the federal level.  Now, however, a witness has come forward who has indicated, Mr. Zimmerman had a right to be fearful for his life which throws a totally different light on things, and we will have to carefully watch how this investigation moves forward since this case is now in the national spotlight.

Maybe George Zimmerman did act in self-defense when he shot and killed Trayvon Martin, whose death Feb. 26 in Sanford, Florida, has been the focus of a media and political circus that even included Barack Obama weighing in this week.

An eyewitness to the incident told police Martin was beating Zimmerman before he shot him.

Zimmerman had called 911 to report the suspicious activities of a youth in his neighborhood, telling the dispatcher that he was following Martin.

On the recording of another 911 call, repeated cries of “help” can be heard before the gunshot.

The witness, identified only as John, says those cries were made by Zimmerman who was on the ground being beaten by Martin.

“The guy on the bottom who had a red sweater on was yelling to me: ‘help, help … and I told him to stop and I was calling 911,” he said.

Martin was wearing a gray hoodie, while Zimmerman was wearing red.

“When I got upstairs and looked down, the guy who was on top beating up the other guy, was the one laying in the grass, and I believe he was dead at that point,” John said.

Zimmerman claimed the shooting was self-defense. Zimmerman said he was going back to his SUV when he was attacked by the teen. Sanford police say Zimmerman was bloody in his face and head, and the back of his shirt was wet and had grass stains, indicating a struggle took place before the shooting.

Meanwhile, the attack has been portrayed by most media outlets as a racist, vigilante-style assault by Zimmerman – a half-Hispanic, half-white, self-style neighborhood crime-watch captain – on an innocent role-model black teen-ager carrying only a cell phone and some Skittles.

Obama weighed in on the shooting Friday, saying the incident requires all Americans to “do some soul searching.”

A man identified as a friend of Zimmerman said Monday the neighborhood watch volunteer would tell the teen's parents he's "very, very sorry" if he could.

Speaking on ABC's "Good Morning America," Joe Oliver said George Zimmerman is not a racist and has virtually lost his own life since the shooting.

"This is a guy who thought he was doing the right thing at the time and it's turned out horribly wrong," Oliver said.

On NBC's "Today" show, Oliver said he had spoken with Zimmerman's mother-in-law, who said Zimmerman was remorseful.

"I learned that he couldn't stop crying for days after the shooting," Oliver said.

I believe every word of this story and still contend that this man is guilty of murder.

You don't get to have it both ways. If you carry a weapon, with that comes accountability. Mistakes are possible and in the most grievous instances, murder is the result.

Zimmerman left his vehicle and  pursued Martin with a weapon he was prepared to use. He wrongly assumed him to be dangerous. All the information he had was this, black teen, hoodie. That was not enough information to make an informed decision. He then, under whatever circumstances, drew his weapon and fired, killing an unarmed person.

No one in this country is given this right to use deadly force without recourse. No one including law enforcement.

No private citizen is provided the right to stop, detain or interrogate another individual who has not been observed in the commission of a crime, namely a felony. Law enforcement must have probable cause.

Mr.Zimmerman committed a crime, probably second degree murder. There was intent. It is sad and tragic, and yes it is about race. It is about race, because no one can imagine that if he had been white Zimmerman would have shot him, much less suspected him. No one can imagine that had the races of these two individuals been reversed there wouldn't have been an arrest that night.

Black man shoots white boy after tracking him down.

But it doesn't have to be divisive. Is it that hard to imagine this family's grief? Is it that hard to imagine that blacks might not feel as though the search for justice was adequate? Is it? Is it so difficult to empathize with young people who feel this has gone on long enough.

Richard Pryor said many years ago, " If you want to go down to the courthouse to find justice, that is what you will find, just us.

Patricia, Zimmerman too has run afoul the law, does that make him guilty?

Pot in a kids backpack does not give anyone the right to shoot him.

Hubby heard a policeman from Chicago call into a talk radio show this afternoon.  His take on this was that 40 black teens were shot and killed in Chicago last year, and he wanted to know where Obama, the NAACP and the New Black Panthers were then.  He also wanted to know why Obama didn't personally call all the parents and families of those 40 young blacks.  Good question huh?  That should tell you this is about publicity period and that is all it is about for Obama, NAACP and Panthers.

The thing I do not understand.  Why is this about the color of everyone's skin.  Why is everything this administration does about skin color and socioeconomic status grouping.  I am so very sick of it, because this has nothing whatever to do with race at all.  I am also sick of hearing Angela has put innocent black people in jail................I doubt that, but they are also trying to paint her as a racist too!  Do these people do or think about anything else at all????   Apparently not.  This to me is about getting to the bottom of this and deciding if someone did something wrong, and I fear if this young man did what the witness says he did, Mr. Zimmerman may very well have been defending himself.

Actually, I guess people of hispanic decent are considered white, but Mr Zimmerman has the same coloring my husband did when he was younger (which is darker and dark hair........I used to envy him never getting a sun burn).  Here is another piece of news that I just received this afternoon.  Link:  http://www.gopusa.com/news/2012/03/26/family-pot-linked-to-trayvon-...

Family: Pot linked to Trayvon Martin suspension

image SANFORD, Fla. (AP) - An unarmed Florida teenager fatally shot by a neighborhood watch volunteer was suspended from school because traces of marijuana were found in his book bag, a spokesman for the teen's family said Monday. Trayvon Martin, 17, was suspended by Miami-Dade County schools after the residue was discovered in a plastic baggie in the book bag, spokesman Ryan Julison said.

While the entire left is "up in arms"over the shooting of Travon Martin, no one seems to think about the Islamist Major in Fort Hood that killed 13 and wounded 29 others.

He is still awaiting trial while the authorities determine if he is sane.

He has never seem a combat situation.  MR. Zimmerman, oh! by the way, what happened to innocence until PROVEN guilty.

Amazing the media seeking justice at first reported Zimmerman was a white then after Zimmerman's Father stated he was Hispanic Some media sources then decided to call Zimmerman a White Hispanic.

As time goes on the facts will become so for from the truth that no one will really know what happened. I do not accept what the media is reporting they were not there. Their reports are based on what incites and grabs ratings. Regardless of the outcome no one will be satisfied. Sadly large sums of money will be involved.

Amanda, in your own words "....if killing someone willfully with no just cause isn't chargeable".  You do not know enough about this to know that Zimmerman did not act in defence of his own life and are willing to try and convict him.  I am not and that is all I am saying.  I am not willing to accept what the news media puts out and say with that small bit, I have all I need to convict someone of murder in the state of Florida which carries a death sentence.  Shame on you if you think you have all the information there is and have enough to convict someone of a sure death sentence.  Pretty serious stuff Ms. Amanda, and no I don't try and convict anyone without justification and I don't think we have that or Mr. Zimmerman would have already been charged and arrested.

Patricia you have no problem telling others how to do their job, be real. I am not asking for a conviction, I am asking for an arrest. Big difference.
Let me be clear. This is indefensible, not Zimmerman but SPD. Zimmerman has little defense, but SPD and the State's Attorney are indefensible.

....if killing someone willfully with no just cause isn't chargeable then nothing is. Why would you defend these characters? It is beyond me. In the name of justice? That dog don't hunt.

Nearly a month! What evidence are we waiting for? Maybe someone will turn up some dirt on Trayvon? I am judging Zimmerman's actions as if he had shot my son 60 yards from my frontdoor with a bag of Skittles and a can of tea. If you don't want to be arrested don't go around shooting people.
Further, if this doesn't qualify as a Stand Your Ground shooting, Jeb says it doesn't, then what are we talking about here? You can't shoot people because they are black, wearing a hoodie and you are a whack job.
This is murder as it has been defined for centuries. Trayvon was scared as was recounted by his girlfriend with whom he was talking. He was afraid to run because that is how black kids his age are taught. They are taught not to run because cops will shoot them. SPD is either inept or complicit, either way this family deserves justice. If Zimmerman walks it will be a bad day for justice.
