Back in August of 2009 the office of the President sent out a solicitation for contract bid to gather, analyze, categorize, store, and track information on many social networking and popular websites. The premise for this information gathering falls under the Presidential Records Act, which states all communication to or from the White House must be archived. I have attached the original contract bid document as well as the link to an article posted on the Office of Management and Budget Watch Website.

Agree that this might be a means of keeping something within the law, but this was a suble attempt to get people to commit to vote without realizing who was leading the parade in an effort to get information about them they might not have otherwise freely given. Or to create an interaction when one party was unaware so to speak. Although the Obama logo was used on the O one of the words, it wasn't highly noticeable unless you were really aware and looking for trickery.

A number of people turned folks in for spamming and certainly it was extremely annoying as I had several pages full of these things and in some cases people put 2 or 3 or more of these notices on my facebook page. Facebook finally did put up an address where you could go to opt yourself out of having anything posted on your page! And after much complaining and quite a bit of discussion by a number of groups, the onslaught appears to be over.

I err in the "less is more" category with regards to these social networks. These networks are left leaning, for the most part, combine this with the gathering of information by the White House and you have a conspiracy theory plot ready for television.

As I've heard in different places before, (and I seem to hear it more often since the present administration came into power), "Just because you're paranoid, it doesn't mean that no one is following you." Now, where DID I put my tin-foil hat?

Donna, the links I posted are directly from the Office of Management and Budget and the Federal Business Opportunities Websites. The "RFQ" is the request for solicitation from the White House to gather, track, categorize, and report daily to the president. If someone were to just "tell" me this monitoring was taking place, I would surely err to doubt initially. It seems I have misplaced my tinfoil. . .

Debbie, this is just scary to think that this would even be allowed to take place in our country. Our media reminds me of a communist nation. I keep thinking that the Teaparty needs to target the media just as much as it is the left wing politicians. It wouldn't surprise me if they did something to do away with Fox News altogether. I keep waiting on that one. I know that Glen Beck has mentioned that his sponsors have been threatened. I guess nothing should shock me any longer. What are your thoughts on the media situation?

My thoughts are "don't accept anything for face value" do your own trust but verify homework. Keep in mind this evolution, so to speak, has been occurring for almost 100 years now. We, most Americans, just grew up with the notion that "it won't happen here." We now must do a mental paradigm shift to "it can and is happening here."
