9/11: Our faithful companions at Ground Zero

As I write this morning, our Golden Retriever is sleeping on the right side of my chair and our Black Lab is sleeping on the left side.  My cat is sitting on my desktop near the desk lamp.  She is sunbathing and purring in delight.  Life is good for our family pets and we are pleased they are so happy.

They bring us joy every day and never once talk back to us.  They greet us at the door when we return from work or errands.  They walk us to the door when we leave.  Their big eyes watch you to see if you are happy or sad.  Their tails wag when happiness is around.  They give you wet kisses when they see tears or feel your sadness.  They truly are gifts from heaven and we are so happy God decided man needed Dog.

Dogs were a big part of the 9/11 tragedy.  Some were killed in the towers as seeing eye dogs died alongside their owners.  When the towers fell, rescue dogs showed up to do their part.  Had it not been for the dogs, many remains would not have been recovered until months later when the cranes pulled away steel beams lying on top of them.

It was rewarding for the rescuers to be able to recover remains.  It helped a family, a firehouse or a police station put some closure to a horrible crime against their family member or fellow peer.  So many of those killed were never found and still today remain on the ground where the towers stood.  That ground will forever be their resting place.

Today as we move towards the 10th Anniversary of the 9/11 attack on America, we wanted to share this video with you.  We honor these great working dogs who did their part and paid the ultimate price in service to man on 9/11.

Fly your flag and hug your dog today.  Give a thumbs up to God for giving us angel dogs here on earth to protect, love and rescue us in times of need.  I love that God did that and He also named them Dog which spelled backwards is God.

Thank you for this moving video, Billie.  Having lost one of my precious dogs last year this was even more poignant.  The working dogs are so special and this dog, Bear, was truly one of those angel's on Earth. God bless the trainers, handlers and the dogs who do this work.

On September 11, all working dog teams, veterinarians and veterinary
medical assistance teams who served in response to the 9/11 attacks will be
honored at Liberty State Park in New Jersey. The sponsoring organization,
Finding One Another: Courage Beyond Measure (FAO) has identified over 950 teams
(civilian, government, law enforcement and military) involved in diverse
efforts at Ground Zero, the Pentagon, Shanksville and the Fresh Kills Landfill
recovery site. This is the first time that these incredible dogs have been
fully recognized.
The details are available at
http://www.findingoneanother.org/recognition-ceremony
FAO needs the support of the dog world to assist in (1) funding the
ceremony as well as (2) supporting their ongoing efforts. FAO has requested that
our support include sending to the ceremony representatives to sign The
Convention on Cooperation Among American Working Dog Organizations. This
historic document, first signed at the Doberman Pincher Centennial in Topeka,
Kansas in 2008, can be viewed at the following link.

As the fancy, we have always rallied to help others whose mission is to
help dogs. Any contribution is greatly needed, appreciated, and tax
deductible.

Part of FAO's mission statement reads (In part) as follows:
Finding One Another (FOA) seeks to support the needs of the SAR (Search
and Rescue) field, the individual canines and their first responder human
partners, by contributing to the establishment of standards of practice, care
and research needed to safeguard all those engaged in this work. Funds
generated by Finding One Another will provide financial assistance to:
- underwrite veterinary expenses for those SAR canines in need,
- increase the number of specially trained SAR focused veterinarians,
- expand targeted research benefitting working dogs and their human
partners, and,
- develop and implement programs to educate the public, both children and
adults, to the work and on-going needs of the SAR community while elevating
the human/animal bond and fostering a dialogue toward a more peaceful
future.
Thank you for your consideration.

Having lost my beautiful Golden, Ginger, in November, I am glad to read Theresa's comment and know I am not the only one.  Awesome post Billie, yet again.  Thanks.

RYAN NICHOLS - Hardened Criminal?? Seriously??

If you're not already aware. This is what's going on in DC while dangerous criminals are allowed back out on the streets.  It's horrifying that this is happening to our citizens and veterans for protesting the hijacking of our election process. This is still happening! They are STILL being tortured and treated like full on terrorists.

You may not be aware of the typical things they're forced to go through...…
