Florida is my home and we’ve been through hurricane watches and warnings many times before. We are blessed this time because Irene decided to give us a break and head up north.
We pray for those who have never experienced the power of a hurricane and hope they will heed warnings and prepare accordingly. We have had our share of preparing for possible destruction. We’ve stood in line at the big box stores gathering wood for window protection and then standing in the grocery stores with carts filled with bottled water and cans of food you would never normally buy (spaghetti o’s!). We’ve purchased magazines to read and batteries for our flashlights and then we pull out the old board games because Wii will not work during the storm.
If the storm isn’t a category 3 or above, we usually hunker down in a room together with our family members, pets and neighbors who are nervous to be alone. We keep the lights on, television blaring on the weather channel and we wait for the lights to go out and they eventually do.
When that happens, we either sleep and wait it out or light candles and play Scrabble or cards. We spend time talking and listening because the sounds of TVs and computers are no more. During all this time, we have one person who acts as “guard” to keep an eye on the storm’s growth. Most storms make a lot of noise and do little damage. But then a big one comes and if you’ve never experienced it, you will begin to pray to God to help you throughout the storm.
The power of God was felt in the earthquake this week and will be felt in the hurricane. God has a funny way of letting people know that He’s still here. He has used these tactics before and if you want to read those stories, try the Bible. It is filled with wonderful accounts of true events that can be used as a tool of life. These stories captured by men inspired by God tell the stories of earthquakes, hurricanes and other weather-related stories. You can search some keywords at http://www.bible.com/ and read the stories for yourself.
As I read the headlines about the storm and other important news, I wondered if God wasn’t too pleased with the headlines either and He was letting us know He isn’t happy.
We see where Mayor Bloomberg is not allowing prayer at the 9/11 ceremony. Read it here: http://www.personalliberty.com/news/bloomberg-thumbs-nose-at-rescue... Note to Mayor Bloomberg: Watch out little guy. The big guy isn’t happy with your plans to erase Him from this event.
We also read where the left who supports the Democrats and Obama are planning a Day of Rage on Wall Street. The day they planned this rage? Constitution Day, September 17th! Nice of them, Yes? Read more about it here: http://canadafreepress.com/index.php/article/39424 Note to the radical left: We’re on to you and will not fall to your plans for riots in the streets.
And this one probably got His attention as it did mine: Fast & Furious gunrunning by the US Government -- http://washingtonexaminer.com/opinion/2011/08/operation-fast-and-fu... Note: The killing of Americans by guns given to Mexican cartels is an offense of great concern and hopefully Congress will handle this and will hold hearings for the public to see the truth about the DOJ. People MUST be terminated and possibly prosecuted for this crime.
And this one isn’t pretty either. Did you know Wall Street Borrowed 1.2 Trillion from the Fed while we are looking for work, people are pinching pennies and gas prices are rising? Read it here: http://www.ritholtz.com/blog/2011/08/wall-st-borrowed-1-2trillion/. Note: Once again the people were deceived, used and abused by the Fed. It’s time for a full investigation and let the whole truth be known about the real issue in our country….we are funded with paper assets of no value.
As the winds pick up today and the seas begin to roll towards land, our hope is that no human life will be lost. We do hope that some of those who believe they are powerful and can control the people will realize they are little men with little power. The only one who is really in control is the big guy who formed the earth in His own hands and can do whatever He chooses with it.
I for one am looking forward to seeing what God has up His sleeve and I’m praying some of these “powerful” little men will have a Damascus Road experience along the way. (If you don’t know what that means, check out Damascus Road at www.bible.com and read one of the coolest stories ever told!)
We’ll be praying for our fellow Americans in those areas targeted by Irene. May God keep you in the palm of His hands and be assured, they are BIG hands! So put your hands in the hands of the Man who stills the waters…

B"H. Thanks Billie. A great post as usual and reminding us that there is One greater and as Ben Franklin acknowledged "governs in the affairs of men."
I couldn't help but notice that the place where Irene (ironically in Grk means "tranquility") made landfall at a place called Cape Lookout - one of the four prominent lighthouses of NC! A depiction of being guided, especially through storms. I think that Someone is telling us to take heed and "Look Out!" at what is up ahead and get back on course! Maybe the "tranquility" will come IF we'll listen, take the warning and steer toward safe harbor.
Years ago I saw Johnny and June. What a great show. They are missed. This is one video I had never seen before. Thanks for posting it. Another great blog.
So true - He is our strength and our judge...New York has not had a direct hit from a hurricane in over 100 years. I think He is giving them a warning...THIS TIME. Thanks for the great words, Billie.
If you're not already aware. This is what's going on in DC while dangerous criminals are allowed back out on the streets. It's horrifying that this is happening to our citizens and veterans for protesting the hijacking of our election process. This is still happening! They are STILL being tortured and treated like full on terrorists.
You may not be aware of the typical things they're forced to go through...…
