House Majority Leader Lopez-Cantera Calls on Bill Nelson to Apologize for Politicizing Capture of Osama Bin Laden

Tallahassee, Fla. - Florida House Majority Leader Carlos Lopez-Cantera (R-Miami) issued the following statement regarding a press conference held today by U.S. Senator Bill Nelson, hosted by Members of the House Democrat Caucus. During the press conference, Senator Nelson accused the Florida Legislature of trying to deny the right to vote to those soldiers who aided in the capture and killing of terrorist leader Osama Bin Laden.

"Senator Nelson's tactics amount to nothing more than an outrageous political stunt, motivated solely by his re-election campaign at the expense of our Armed Forces. His disgraceful suggestion that the Florida Legislature would attempt to diminish the voting rights of American heroes is offensive and untruthful, and I demand that Senator Nelson immediately apologize for politicizing what should be a moment of unity for our nation.

"As Americans, we should be celebrating the capture of Osama Bin Laden as a step forward in the war on terror, remembering the thousands of American citizens he killed and those who have lost their lives in the global war on terror. Instead, Senator Nelson is using this American victory as a campaign stunt, and that is deplorable.

"As a U.S. Senator, he should be focused on tackling our failed federal immigration policy, preserving the space coast economy, and pushing back against an administration that is threatening to raise taxes on job creators when Florida is experiencing record high unemployment."

You are quite welcome, JR, because if I can help someone improve their knowledge in some small way, they in turn can inspire others, and on and on!  As Plato said, "We can easily forgive a child who is afraid of the dark; the real tragedy of life is when men are afraid of the light."  The light of truth is a great thing, and we can certainly use more of it, but don't get me started on philosophy; Cheers!

Well, I have to agree with you, Robert, particularly with regard to "the blind support of dolts to a political party," which is exactly what got Barack Hussein Obama elected. Your quote from Samuel Johnson applies to that same topic, as well, for Obama didn't speak the truth, and his followers were so entranced by the fantasy he created, they willingly became compliant dolts unable to discern the difference between truth and fiction.  Thank you for your source information for 'myrmidon.'

JR, I thank you for your comment. It is reasonable, and I agree that the different definitions of ‘myrmidon’ are a kind of a distinction without a difference. As information, however, the Internet Dictionary (that I have) explains the difference, and Webster’s New World College Dictionary (4th
Edition) does also, but you have to look carefully at the lower case ‘m’ for the 2nd  meaning.  The 1st meaning is the Thessalian warriors who fight under Achilles, their king, in the Trojan War, and the 2nd is an unquestioning follower or subordinate.

I just don’t like to see the word used to conflate the loyal dedication of warriors to a cause or
their king with the blind support of dolts to a political party.

J.L., I did finally find a library of the TIMES' covers of their official "Person of the Year." But, I couldn't find a library for alternative covers, so they must be for markets like San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York City, Boston, Chicago and the likes. In other words, for the eyes of hard-left liberals. Regardless, it's reprehensible no matter who did it. It's hard to describe the revulsion I felt when I first looked at it... and every time thereafter.  It is stunningly anti-American and anti-military.

Robert, I found varying definitions for Myrmidon, both upper case and lower case m's, but didn't find your definition for the lower case "myrmidon."  All definitions for both seemed to be just different words for followers who loyally or blindly follow a leader. The upper case Myrmidon definition was explained as a group of people Zeus created from an ant's nest and who settled in Thessaly and were led into battle against Troy by Achilles. They were warriors who faithfully followed Achilles into wars. Of course, sycophants are servile fawners and followers of a leader, as well, for varying reasons. It seems like a distinction without a difference, since they are both followers of a sort. Being a wordsmith and writer of poetry, I'd be interested in learning the source for your definition for "myrmidon." (lower case "m").

Our brave military also honors their oath of service unlike the majority of our elected representatives who have dishonored the peoples' seats... that is my opinion.

Thank you Robert for the clarification! I have learned so much from this site. Thank you all for sharing information.

My below post third down should read: ' Steve a good example of Myrmidon is actually Breithart and O'Keefe they are journalists who are seeking the truth, and the facts and they are loyal to it.'

I was paying too, much attention to spelling, messed up on the whole meaning. Thanks Robert. Learned quiet a bit today.

Please allow me to clarify something. The capitalized spelling of Myrmidon refers to dedicated and loyal soldiers in Greek Literature. The lower case spelling of myrmidon refers to those who follow blindly; those who execute without question or scruples a master's commands. The lower case definition is what I refer to; the sycophant, the stooge, and the gullible dupe!

Our brave soldiers are certainly dedicated and loyal, but they are dedicated and loyal to the preservation of our freedoms and to the American people, not to an individual. It is a real shame that the self-indulgent leftist and Democrats hold them in such disregard!

Also, the rules-of-engagement that are applied to our men and women in combat are getting them killed and maimed, and that is an abomination! The Democrats and RINO Republicans, like
Lindsey Graham and others, will most assuredly suffer the opprobrium of GOD.

“If ever a time should come, when vain and aspiring men shall possess the highest seats in Government, our country will stand in need of its experienced patriots to prevent its ruin.” Samuel Adams

Give it a rest, Steve.  With such huge numbers of A.C.O.R.N. violations all over the country, you cannot, with any credibility, say they are all anomalies.  Many of the A.C.O.R.N. workers and officials were indicted for voter fraud.  You don't get indicted without probable cause. And you don't get convicted without evidence. Many were convicted. The ones not prosecuted were probably in blue states.

A.C.O.R.N. got so burned by the exposure of their illegal actions, their acronym name became radioactive.  They changed the name of the organization to try to hide who they now are.  Just because they've gone pretty much underground, doesn't mean they're not still there and not still stealing votes. It's also possible that some who managed to skate on charges filed against them, were released by liberal activist judges.

Besides, there's no point beating a dead horse.  J.L. gave you some good advice.

Steve a good example of myrmidon is actually Breithart and O'Keefe they are journalists who are seeking the truth, and the facts and they are loyal to it. Most now are not, most are pursuing agendas, personal interest for a leg up, sad really because they use to be the great force that kept many politicians in line. That is why the Freedom of Press is so important. From you, i have just seen twisted facts, a wee bit of truth but you tend to find the disingenuous reports. WHY is that?

RYAN NICHOLS - Hardened Criminal?? Seriously??

If you're not already aware. This is what's going on in DC while dangerous criminals are allowed back out on the streets.  It's horrifying that this is happening to our citizens and veterans for protesting the hijacking of our election process. This is still happening! They are STILL being tortured and treated like full on terrorists.

You may not be aware of the typical things they're forced to go through...…
