House Majority Leader Lopez-Cantera Calls on Bill Nelson to Apologize for Politicizing Capture of Osama Bin Laden

Tallahassee, Fla. - Florida House Majority Leader Carlos Lopez-Cantera (R-Miami) issued the following statement regarding a press conference held today by U.S. Senator Bill Nelson, hosted by Members of the House Democrat Caucus. During the press conference, Senator Nelson accused the Florida Legislature of trying to deny the right to vote to those soldiers who aided in the capture and killing of terrorist leader Osama Bin Laden.

"Senator Nelson's tactics amount to nothing more than an outrageous political stunt, motivated solely by his re-election campaign at the expense of our Armed Forces. His disgraceful suggestion that the Florida Legislature would attempt to diminish the voting rights of American heroes is offensive and untruthful, and I demand that Senator Nelson immediately apologize for politicizing what should be a moment of unity for our nation.

"As Americans, we should be celebrating the capture of Osama Bin Laden as a step forward in the war on terror, remembering the thousands of American citizens he killed and those who have lost their lives in the global war on terror. Instead, Senator Nelson is using this American victory as a campaign stunt, and that is deplorable.

"As a U.S. Senator, he should be focused on tackling our failed federal immigration policy, preserving the space coast economy, and pushing back against an administration that is threatening to raise taxes on job creators when Florida is experiencing record high unemployment."

Great follow up Robert.  I was just starting the process myself between interruptions.  You might add that Attorney General Holden along with liberal Federal Judges have underminded and failed to pursue other investigations as well.   That is also why ACORN groups around the country have changed their organizational names to confuse voters into believing they have changed their behavior and patterns.  They should demand tax returns the day of the vote to get a ballot with photo ID's.

Even if you don't owe taxes you are obligated to file.

Unfortunately,Steve, voter fraud is a tradition among Democrats. Here are just a few excerpts from the website of RottenAcorn:
FL - 2009  In September, 11 ACORN workers were accused of forging voter registration applications in Miami-Dade County during the last election. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the

state attorney’s office scoured hundreds of suspicious applications provided by ACORN and found 197 of 260 contained personal ID information that did not match any living person.

MO -2008   Nearly 400 ACORN-submitted registrations in Kansas City have been rejected due to duplication or fake information.
2007   Four ACORN employees were indicted in Kansas City for charges including identity theft and filing false registrations during the 2006 election.
2006   Eight ACORN employees in St. Louis were indicted on federal election fraud charges. Each of the eight faces up to five years in prison for forging signatures and submitting false information.
2003   Of 5,379 voter registration cards ACORN submitted in St. Louis, only 2,013 of those appeared to be valid. At least 1,000 are believed to be attempts to register voters illegally.

NV - 2009  Nevada authorities indicted ACORN on 26 counts of voter registration fraud and 13 counts of illegally compensating canvassers. ACORN provided a bonus compensation program called

“Blackjack” or “21+” for any canvasser who registered more than 20 voters per shift, which is illegal under Nevada law.
2008  Nevada state authorities raided ACORN's Las Vegas headquarters as part of a task force investigation of election fraud. Fraudulent registrations included players from the Dallas Cowboys.

WI -  2008  At least 33,000 ACORN-submitted registrations in Milwaukee have been called into question after it was found that the organizations had been using felons as registration workers, in violation of state election rules. Two people involved in the ongoing Wisconsin voter fraud investigation have been charged with felonies.
2004 The district attorney’s office investigated seven voter registration applications Project Vote employees filed in the names of people who said the group never contacted them. Former Project Vote employee Robert Marquise Blakely told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that he had not met with any of the people whose voter registration applications he signed, “an apparent violation of state law,” according to the paper.

Lyndon Johnson and Richard Daley were masters at stuffing the ballot box!

BTW, Steve, this is a website for Patriots; not Democrat myrmidons!

Hey Steve Meyers AKA Tom Jones.  I guess it wasn't Bid Laden who has been living in a cave all these years.  ACORN has had multiple charges of extensive voter fraud in every state it operates in.  How many groups have 1000's of Mickey Mouse registered voters in its Party.

The military should have their own polling stations like J.R. pointed out. I can not believe that elected representatives allowed that to be taken away, that is just unconscionable. IF anyone should have MORE convenience and ease in voting, it should be the military. Bill Nelson has answered many of my emails "...while this bill is not perfect because of our current crisis, it must be passed..." He would state that on every bill i asked him not to vote for and i would outline WHY and that was his reasoning, WHY he voted for it. So he stands up for voting for imperfect bills which the constitution states that a bill will be debated in a openly and healthy manner until the bill was PERFECT before a vote is cast by a super majority vote. HOW far are we off on that in our constitution? There is NO way that any Congress member was able to read many of the massive pages of legislation that was given to them less than 24 hours to vote on, they passed these bills without reading them, that is unconscionable and they have broken their oath of office, we should not allow that to happen.

I generally refer to Nelson as “Benedict” Bill because of his hypocrisy and obvious disdain for patriotic Americans. I believe Billy boy can be easily beaten in 2012! Here is some pertinent background information from Jed Babbin who wrote an article on 8/19/2004 entitled “Disenfranchised Defenders- Avoiding a repeat of 2000.” Here is a portion:

“On November 19, 2000, we discovered that there are no limits to what Democrats will do to win an election. The same Democrats who so often and so loudly protest any real or imagined threat to a minority's right to vote had desperately worked to disenfranchise a minority group thought to be friendly to the other side……

With the presidential election hanging by a loose chad in Palm Beach County, Florida, Dems launched their campaign to disenfranchise military absentee voters. The memo instructing Democratic election canvassers on the best means to do so — authored by lawyer Mark Herron — fell into the hands of a Republican worker, and the Drudge Report promptly published it….

This problem is not unique to Florida, and it didn't just happen in 2000. According to the results of a survey by the Reserve Officers' Association, ROA estimates that the disenfranchisement rate among military personnel who try to vote in Florida, Missouri, and South Carolina is 40-45 percent.”

We also need to help defeat Debbie ‘Wants-a-Man’ Schultz from Florida’s 20th District in the next election! The evidence is clear; Democrats CHEAT!

If you are going to change your address, you can do it at the Drivers' Licensing bureau (DMV) they also take VOTER registration and changes IF your address is change you should change your license, my daughter has done that.  Personally i think voter registration has become way too, lax and needs to be tightened back up like it originally was before pre voting el etc. was created. There should be voting only on one day to avoid fraud and there has been massive fraud through out the countries as the voting laws have been changed to allow people to vote early. The more bureaucracy that is added, the more corruption, waste and fraud is created.  I think, since reading J.R.'s post, that the military overseas should have their OWN polling places, i just assumed they always sent in absentee ballots. It is clear that it all has been perverted also so parties could manipulate votes. I was surprise to find out that our Founding fathers warned against having votes on many days instead of just one. They also warned against having parties, that a person should run on their principles, values and the content of their character, if you have parties a division that the candidates could easily manipulate votes on issues. Sound familiar?

In submitting this bill, the legislators have offered NO evidence of voter fraud in the state in the proposed legislation to shorten early voting, no longer allow residents to change his/her address at the polling place and have his ballot accepted (it will be a provisional ballot).  Even Republican supervisors of elections are unhappy with the bill because they believe the legislature is trying to "fix" something that is not broken.  If, in fact, there is no voter fraud, why is the bill being proposed?  I agree that Bill Nelson's comments were inappropriate at best,  BUT, the proposed legislation is nothing but our corrupt legislature at its worst.

I found my file on Bernie Sanders:

This afternoon Sanders sent out a fundraising appeal, seeking to raise money to fight Republicans and other “right-wing reactionaries” responsible for the climate that led to the shooting.

He writes:

Given the recent tragedy in Arizona, as well as the start of the new Congress, I wanted to take this opportunity to share a few words with political friends in Vermont and throughout the country.  I also want to thank the very many supporters who have begun contributing online to my 2012 reelection campaign at www.bernie.org. There is no question but that the Republican Party, big money corporate interests and right-wing organizations will vigorously oppose me.  Your financial support now and in the future is much appreciated.

Sanders lists several events as evidence that right-wing rhetoric led to the attacks, and then continues:

What should be understood is that the violence, and threats of violence against Democrats in Arizona, was not limited to Gabrielle Giffords. Raul Grijalva, an old friend of mine and one of the most progressive members in the House, was forced to close his district office this summer when someone shot a bullet through his office window.  Another Democratic elected official in Arizona, recently defeated Congressman Harry Mitchell, suspended town meetings in his district because of the threatening phone calls that he received (Mitchell was also in the cross-hairs on the Palin map).  And Judge John Roll, who was shot to death at the Giffords event, had received numerous threatening calls and death threats in 2009. ¨In light of all of this violence – both actual and threatened – is Arizona a state in which people who are not Republicans are able to participate freely and fully in the democratic process?  Have right-wing reactionaries, through threats and acts of violence, intimidated people with different points of view from expressing their political positions?

A staffer in Sanders campaign office confirmed that the letter went out today.
