Yesterday a tragedy that we normally see on television showed up in our hometown. A well-educated and unassuming young man, Shane Schumerth, murdered his former boss at Episcopal High School. Head of School Dale Regan was a wonderful administrator, teacher and steward of service to her community.
Today we were contacted by the media asking if Shane Schumerth was a member of the tea party. Mr. Schumerth was not a member in our membership database of nearly 10,000 First Coast residents.
We are shocked and saddened by this terrible tragedy. There are many in the First Coast Tea Party who went to Episcopal. There are many who sent their children there and now grandchildren are walking the halls of this wonderful school.
We know the days and weeks to follow will be difficult for the students, faculty and parents of Episcopal. We know their faith will see them through and the legacy Dale Regan left behind will serve many other generations of Episcopal students.

Mary Jo you are right about the media if they could have connected that young man with the Tea Party this story would be in the national headlines saying rightwing radical murders school administrator. Thank god he wasn't a member. My heart goes out to the Episcopal families, students, staff and the Regan family I pray that the lord will provide comfort to them in this painful time. I also hope the media will leave the politics out of this and try to find the real motive behind this ill young mans actions.
Is there any sense that has been made out of this...as in why? and why now?
Heartbreaking. I'm so sorry for your loss.
If you're not already aware. This is what's going on in DC while dangerous criminals are allowed back out on the streets. It's horrifying that this is happening to our citizens and veterans for protesting the hijacking of our election process. This is still happening! They are STILL being tortured and treated like full on terrorists.
You may not be aware of the typical things they're forced to go through...…
